Plant Biology and Production Systems Research Group Maria has developed research projects related to the incorporation of biotechnological tools in production processes with small scale farmers, in vitro propagation and genetic characterization of species of agricultural interest, such as: Development of the technological package for the molecular certification and conservation of melina clones (Gmelina arborea L. Roxb) Participatory strategies for sustainable management in production systems with small farmers in the province of Ubaté, department of Cundinamarca. Development of Capacities for the Appropriation and Use of Knowledge in the Production of Initial Potato Seed for the Development and Improvement of Potato Production Systems for Small Producers in the Department of Cundinamarca and Boyacá. Historical memory, genetic characterization and food use of marginalized Andean tubers in the provinces of Centro and Márquez (Boyacá) Development of strategies for the certification of seeds and seedlings of passion fruit trees in the Department of Huila. María has participated in processes of social appropriation of Science and Technology, working with small farmers producing potatoes and Andean tubers: Adoption and incorporation of biotechnological tools by small potato producers within their production systems: An experience of social appropriation of technical and scientific knowledge Contributions of science in the approach of participatory strategies for sustainable management in production systems with small farmers in the departments of Cundinamarca and Boyacá: a case of social appropriation of knowledge She currently leads the project «Improving the yield of potatoes and other tubers – Root to Food», financed by Fontagro.
